Mobile applications: How useful they are in enhancing library services

As smartphones have become affordable and with the ability to download a wide variety of applications that allow users to do multiple tasks anywhere and at anytime, it is not just affecting everyday life, but also the information seeking behaviours of people.Today, our library users are more likely to search for information and look up answers on their smartphones as an entry point. Moreover, it is predicted that the number of people using them will increase significantly over the coming years. Therefore, librarians need to deal withthis new information environment to meet the needs and expectations of our users’ lifestyles.

In my presentation entitled Mobile applications: How useful they are in enhancing library services I present the benefit from libraries having mobile apps and how they can be used for promoting library services.

Do you think libraries should offer mobile apps to their users? If you would like to share your thoughts on this topic, feel free to leave a comment J

  1. The birth of smartphone devices and mobile apps somehow enhanced the convenience we enjoy in our lives. It seems that almost everything we need can be found in one handy phone. From digital maps and organizer software to music and gaming apps, mobile applications have made a large impact in the lives of the global population. Consequently, this presents a large opportunity for businesses to better reach and interact with their target consumers.
