Mobile apps in libraries: How academic libraries use mobile apps to connect with its users

With the growing demand for mobile access to library resources, many libraries are investing in mobile applications, which library users can use on a smart phone or other mobile device. I had a chance to interview Miss Paithip Potharin, a technical librarian from Burapa University Library, Thailand. She talks about her library experiences with mobile apps and explains how the academic library created a mobile library website to boost their services and resources usage. Let's get started with the interview!

Mobile applications: How useful they are in enhancing library services

As smartphones have become affordable and with the ability to download a wide variety of applications that allow users to do multiple tasks anywhere and at anytime, it is not just affecting everyday life, but also the information seeking behaviours of people.Today, our library users are more likely to search for information and look up answers on their smartphones as an entry point. Moreover, it is predicted that the number of people using them will increase significantly over the coming years. Therefore, librarians need to deal withthis new information environment to meet the needs and expectations of our users’ lifestyles.

In my presentation entitled Mobile applications: How useful they are in enhancing library services I present the benefit from libraries having mobile apps and how they can be used for promoting library services.
